Car tire pressure is one of those things that we do not think too much about until we have a flat tire. However, you should always remember that the suspension, body, seats and everything else that is inside or part of the car ride on the tire pressure. That is why everyone who has a car should know how to measure tire pressure. You should know that a certain tire needs to be refilled before it starts to show. You can do this by listening to your car, and feel how it behaves when driving. You should also know how to inflate a tire, and you should have a portable tire inflator.
The first thing to do
The first thing is to know how much tire pressure should go to your tires. While most car tires use 35 psi, it is not the standard in all cars. It is much better to eliminate the guesswork from your tire inflation. On the door jamb on the driver’s side, you will find all the crucial vehicle information displayed there. That way, you will find information about the cargo volume, the maximum tire pressure that the manufacturer recommended for your car and many more. Tire markings only show the maximum pressure for the tires, but not for the car.
Filling the tires
It is recommended that you check your car tires for pressure when the weather is cold, or early in the morning. The warm temperatures can cause some variance in the pressure. If it is warmer, then the tire pressure will be high. This is only logical because black retains heat and the tires are black. This means when it is cold is the best time to check the tire pressure. Winter and fall are the best times to check your car tire pressure.
Uncap the valve stems. They are usually covered by small caps that prevent the dust from entering. You can then use the tire gauge to find out the amount of pressure in the tires. To check the pressure, press the tire gauge on the valve stem hard. It will show you the readings on the meter For a compact car, it should be about 35. If it reads too low below that, something is definitely wrong or perhaps you did not use the tire gauge right. If it reads too high, repeat the process again.
Filling the tires is easy. You just need to press the tip of the air hose to the valve stem and the air starts to get into the tire. Sometimes, the air can leak. You will know its leaking when you hear a loud hissing sound. Usually, this happens because of an incorrect connection between the valve stem and the air hose tip. Check it again.
As the air gets in, keep checking the gauge. Once you have enough pressure, you can take the air hose tip-off and lock the dust caps in place. You should also check the pressure level of all the tires. It is important that you make sure all the tires are at the same level to enhance your driving experience.
